This panto-style re-imagining of J.M. Barrie's classic book focuses on Wendy's transition from a child to a responsible young lady -- with plenty of adventure in between! When Wendy refuses to leave the nursery and sleep downstairs, her mother gives her a mysterious box containing Peter Pan's shadow. Unable to resist, Wendy opens it, Peter arrives, and they're off to Neverland! But even there, Wendy must learn what it means to grow up. Making God Laugh follows one typical American family over the course of thirty years' worth of holidays. Starting in 1980, Ruthie and Bill's grown children -- a priest, an aspiring actress, and a former football star -- all return home, where we learn of their plans and dreams as they embark on their adult lives. The empty-nester parents contend with their own changes, too, as old family rituals are trotted out and ancient tensions flare up. As time passes, the family discovers that, despite what we may have in mind, we often arrive at unexpected destinations.

It’s Molly’s first year to host Christmas Eve and everything must be perfect. The kitchen table is beautifully set; the banana-blueberry pie is chilling in the fridge; the turkey is roasting; and everyone invited has a beautifully wrapped Christmas Eve present under the beautifully trimmed Christmas tree. What could possibly go wrong? But wait—the Christmas carolers, who were so cute the first couple of times around, won’t stop coming. Molly’s 12-year-old son, Johnathan has a shiner just in time for family photos, and her controlling mother-in-law, who never cuts Molly any slack, invites her husband’s ex-fiancé, Lee Ann to dinner.
